## Summary

Qatar holds world's 3rd-largest gas reserves, almost entirely in the North Field — world's largest non-associated gas field, shared with Iran (South Pars). 2024 appraisal drilling found +240 Tcf, raising reserves from ~1,760 to 2,000+ Tcf. Qatar left OPEC Jan 2019 to focus on gas. After a 12-year moratorium (lifted 2017-2021), QatarEnergy is executing 3 LNG expansion phases: North Field East (32 mtpa, raising capacity 77→110 mtpa, first cargo mid-2026 after construction paused by the Feb 2026 Iran conflict), North Field South (+16 mtpa, to 126 mtpa by 2027-28), North Field West (announced Feb 2024, +16 mtpa, ~$17-18bn), totaling 142 mtpa by end 2030 (+85% from 2024). Historically top-2 LNG exporter alongside USA/Australia. Targets ~25% of global LNG market by 2030. Hydrocarbons still >50% of government revenue despite Vision 2030 diversification.
