## Summary
Indian mathematical tradition of trigonometry. Āryabhaṭa 499 CE sine table (jya = half-chord). Etymology of 'sine' from Sanskrit jya via Arabic jiba via Latin sinus. Mādhava c.1400 CE infinite series for sine/cosine preceded European discovery by 200 years.
