Nature of the Content
The Mathematics Codex is an encyclopaedic reference project. Every substantive claim is attributed to a named, verifiable source. Sources are classified by tier: Tier 1 (peer-reviewed critical editions, major academic monographs), Tier 2 (established reference works, institutional archives), and Tier 3 (accessible scholarly writing). Source tier is shown on every entry.
Despite this editorial care, errors may exist. Mathematics is a living field, and historical attribution is often contested. If you find an error or dispute a claim, please use the feedback mechanism on the relevant entry page.
Incompleteness
The Codex is actively under construction. The majority of planned entries have not yet been written. Domain pages and the Status page indicate which entries exist and which are planned. Absent entries do not imply that the corresponding mathematics is unimportant.
Not a Substitute for Primary Sources
This site is a reference and navigation aid — not a replacement for original texts, peer-reviewed papers, or specialist textbooks. For any serious academic or professional use, consult the primary sources cited in each entry. All Tier 1 sources are identified precisely enough to be retrieved from major academic libraries or archives.
Civilisational Balance
The Codex is explicitly designed to represent mathematical traditions from all civilisations with equal editorial rigour — including Babylonian, Egyptian, Greek, Indian, Chinese, Islamic, Mayan, and European traditions. Where historical emphasis in existing encyclopaedias has favoured European sources, this Codex applies the same source-verification standards across all traditions. This is an editorial commitment, not a political one.
