π’ The simple version
Plain English β no jargon. Start here.
Idle Finance is a yield optimiser with Perpetual Yield Tranches β the same vault splits into Senior (protected, lower yield) and Junior (first-loss, higher yield) positions β serving both conservative and yield-hungry participants from the same underlying strategy.
Perpetual Yield Tranches
A PYT takes a yield source (e.g. Aave USDC at 4% APY) and splits it. Junior tranche holders absorb protocol losses first. Senior tranche holders get protection β if Aave loses 5% but Junior covers it, Senior holders are made whole. As compensation, Juniors earn more of the total yield. ~13M IDLE (very low supply), governance + fee share. Underlying protocols: Aave, Compound, Morpho. Is IDLE legal in India? Yes. 30% tax, 1% TDS apply.
π‘ A bit more detail
For when you want to go a little deeper.
IDLE vs Yearn vs Sommelier
All yield optimisers. Yearn: general-purpose, no tranches. Sommelier: Cosmos sidechain active strategies. Idle: tranche system allowing different risk profiles in same strategy. ~13M IDLE supply is significantly lower than SOMM (~500M), making per-token economics very different.
