The "pull" model — a technical innovation

Traditional oracles constantly "push" prices onto a blockchain — updating the on-chain price every few seconds whether or not anyone needs it, which is expensive and wasteful. Pyth instead keeps prices updating rapidly off-chain and lets applications "pull" the latest price onto the chain only at the exact moment they need it, paying for the update just then.
