Hemanta — Early Winter
Hemanta is the most nourishing season of the year. Ashtanga Hridayam documents that Hemanta produces the strongest Agni of the six seasons — internal heat concentrates as external cold drives it inward. The classical winter regimen is the most nourishing and Bala-building of all six seasons.
Classical Hemanta regimen
Maximum nourishment
Sweet, sour, and salty tastes with oily, heavy foods specifically indicated — strong Agni can process what would create Ama in weaker seasons. Milk with ghee, sesame preparations, Urad dal, wheat. Cook everything.
Primary Rasayana season
Hemanta is the optimal season for extended Rasayana protocols. Chyawanprash specifically documented for beginning in Hemanta. Strong Agni ensures heavy preparations are fully absorbed.
Maximum intensity
The season for maximum exercise intensity — vigorous training produces maximum Bala-building. Strong Agni processes metabolic products without accumulating Ama.
