Charaka Samhita, Sutrasthana 6.26
Varsha vata kupyati — Vata is aggravated in the rainy season. The Agni is weakened by cold, rain, and heavy clouds. Food should be digestible, warm, and light.

Classical monsoon regimen

Diet

Sour, salty, oily — Vata-reducing

Warm, freshly cooked food throughout. Sour and salty tastes are Vata-reducing and specifically indicated. Old ghee and warm soups with digestive herbs. Avoid: cold foods, raw vegetables, leftovers, heavy pulses, river water.

Panchakarma

Varsha Basti

The monsoon season is the classical indication for Basti — Vata's primary Panchakarma procedure. Basti in Varsha is more effective than in any other season for long-standing Vata conditions.

Herbs

Rasayana and digestive emphasis

Rasayana herbs: Ashwagandha, Shatavari, Chyawanprash. Digestive herbs: Trikatu, Chitraka, Hingwashtaka Churna.

Water quality in monsoon
Charaka Samhita documents open water sources in monsoon as less pure — one of the earliest discussions of waterborne disease risk in any medical tradition.
