What is Gamma Strategies (GAMMA)?

Nothing here is financial advice. GAMMA can fall to zero. Automated LP strategies have their own smart contract risk on top of the underlying DEX risk. Always do your own research.

Plain English β€” no jargon. Start here.

One sentence

Gamma Strategies is an automated liquidity management protocol built on top of Uniswap v3 and other concentrated liquidity DEXes β€” it manages LP positions on your behalf by automatically rebalancing price ranges when prices move out of range, so you earn Uniswap v3 fee efficiency without the active management requirement.

The concentrated liquidity management problem

Uniswap v3 introduced concentrated liquidity β€” LPs set price ranges and earn much higher fees when price is in that range, but earn nothing when price moves outside it. The efficiency gain is real (up to 4000x for stable pairs) but requires constant monitoring and rebalancing. If you set a SOL/USDC range of $100-$150 and SOL moves to $200, your position is sitting idle, fully converted to USDC, earning nothing. You need to check regularly and reset your range.

Most retail LPs cannot (or don't want to) monitor positions continuously. Gamma Strategies automates this: you deposit tokens into a Gamma vault, and the protocol's "hypervisor" contracts manage the price ranges on Uniswap v3 β€” rebalancing when necessary, collecting fees, and reinvesting them into the position. You earn compounded Uniswap v3 yields passively.

GAMMA token

GAMMA is the governance token of Gamma Strategies. Staking GAMMA earns a share of protocol fees collected from the automated vaults β€” a percentage of the LP fees the vaults generate flows to GAMMA stakers. This direct revenue-share model gives GAMMA a clear value driver tied to the protocol's AUM (assets under management) and LP fee income.

Is GAMMA legal in India?

Yes. GAMMA qualifies as a Virtual Digital Asset (VDA) under Indian law. 30% tax on gains and 1% TDS applies. Always consult a tax professional.

Gamma's strategy types

Gamma offers several automated strategy types: (1) Base + Limit β€” a wider "base" range supplemented by a narrow "limit" range near current price for additional fees; (2) Full Range β€” like Uniswap v2, spread across all prices (no management needed but less efficient); (3) Dynamic strategies β€” the range adjusts based on volatility metrics, wider in high-volatility periods to reduce rebalancing frequency. The choice of strategy affects: fee income, impermanent loss exposure, and rebalancing frequency (each rebalance has gas costs).

Gamma's multi-protocol expansion

Gamma started on Uniswap v3 (Ethereum) but expanded to Uniswap v3 on all major EVM chains, Orca Whirlpools (Solana), QuickSwap v3 (Polygon), and other concentrated liquidity DEXes. This multi-chain expansion makes Gamma comparable to Arrakis Finance (another LP manager) β€” both compete for the same market of passive concentrated liquidity management. The protocol had hundreds of millions in AUM at peak 2023 activity.

Rebalancing cost

Automated rebalancing has costs: gas fees (small on L2s, meaningful on Ethereum mainnet), swap fees when rebalancing (converting between tokens), and potential impermanent loss crystallisation at each rebalance. In low-fee environments (L2s) with moderate volatility, automated management adds value. On Ethereum mainnet with high gas, the costs can eat into gains. Evaluate net return (fees earned minus management costs) vs a passive position. Live data: CoinGecko

🟣 The full technical picture

For the technically curious.

Key facts

  • Token: GAMMA (governance + revenue share)
  • Function: Automated concentrated liquidity management
  • Built on: Uniswap v3 (primary) + Orca Whirlpools, QuickSwap v3, and others
  • Chains: Ethereum, Arbitrum, Polygon, Optimism, Base, Solana, and more
  • Revenue model: % of LP fees from managed vaults β†’ GAMMA stakers
  • Strategy types: Base+Limit, Full Range, Dynamic volatility-adjusted
  • Competitor: Arrakis Finance (similar concept)
  • Key metric: AUM (assets under management) + fee yield

Hypervisor architecture

Gamma's vaults are built using "Hypervisor" smart contracts β€” an ERC-20 wrapper around a Uniswap v3 LP position. When you deposit into a Gamma vault, you receive an ERC-20 hypervisor token representing your share of the vault's LP position. This token is composable β€” it can be used as collateral in lending protocols or staked for additional rewards. The hypervisor contract manages the underlying Uniswap v3 NFT position (which represents the actual LP range), handling all rebalancing, fee collection, and compounding internally. Users interact only with the ERC-20 hypervisor token, not directly with Uniswap v3's complex NFT LP system.
