What Hivemapper is building
Google Maps Street View has photographed most of the world's roads, but it's expensive (Google's fleet costs billions), slow to update (many areas have outdated imagery), and controlled by a single corporation. Hivemapper proposes a radical alternative: pay ordinary drivers to collect the same imagery with a purpose-built dashcam. Each Hivemapper Dashcam driver, going about their normal daily routes, collects high-quality street-level imagery and GPS data. The Hivemapper network processes this into map data. Drivers earn HONEY tokens proportional to the coverage value of their contributions β driving in coverage-scarce areas earns more than over-mapped areas.
The map data is sold to enterprises (logistics companies, automotive OEMs, government agencies, AI training data buyers) who need fresh, accurate maps. HONEY earned by drivers comes from these map data sales. The more valuable the data, the more HONEY contributors earn.
HONEY token
HONEY is a Solana SPL token. Drivers earn HONEY for map contributions; enterprises pay HONEY (or USD converted to HONEY) for map data API access. The token is deflationary β a portion of HONEY paid for map data is burned. Total supply: 10 billion HONEY.

Hivemapper has achieved significant real-world coverage. By 2024, the network had mapped hundreds of millions of kilometres of roads across the world β a meaningful fraction of the total global road network. Coverage is uneven (urban areas and North America well-covered, rural and developing world less so) but growing. The freshness of Hivemapper data is a key selling point: contributors remap roads continuously, giving enterprise buyers access to updated imagery within days rather than Google's typical 1-3 year refresh cycle.

Map data quality assurance
Hivemapper uses AI-powered quality assurance: each frame submitted by dashcams is processed by on-chain "Map AI" programs that verify image quality, GPS accuracy, and coverage validity.
