Charaka Samhita, Sutrasthana 28 — Dhatu 7
Shukra Dhatu: Karma — Dharana (seed-carrying), Garbhotpada (reproduction). Seat — Entire body (para-Shukra) + testes/ovaries. Upadhatu — None (converted to Ojas). Mala — No documented Mala — Shukra is the purest Dhatu.

Classical documentation

Shukra Dhatu is the reproductive tissue — the seventh and final Dhatu, the most refined product of the entire metabolic chain. Classical texts document Shukra as present throughout the entire body (para-Shukra — the generalised reproductive vitality) and specifically concentrated in the reproductive organs. The fact that Shukra has no documented Mala and produces Ojas directly from its finest portion reflects its classical status as the ultimate refinement of all biological processes. Charaka Samhita documents: when Shukra is depleted, Ojas is depleted; when Ojas is depleted, life is at risk. This is why Vajikarana (the branch dedicated to Shukra health) is one of the eight classical branches of Ayurveda — not a minor specialty but a fundamental branch.

Signs of imbalance

Vriddhi (excess): Excess seminal fluid, formation of Shukrashmari (seminal calculi), prostatic conditions

Kshaya (deficiency): Infertility, sexual dysfunction, fear, loss of Ojas signs (dullness of eyes, lack of lustre, fatigue)

Dhatvagni — the tissue fire
Shukra Dhatvagni — impaired by chronic Vata, excessive sexual activity, chronic stress. When Dhatvagni is impaired — by Ama, improper diet, or Dosha aggravation — the tissue cannot properly form the next Dhatu in the chain. This is why classical treatment of tissue deficiency begins not with tissue-building herbs but with Deepana (kindling the Dhatvagni) and Pachana (digesting the Ama that impairs it).
Rasayana for this Dhatu
Ashwagandha, Shatavari, Musali, Kapikacchu, Chyawanprash — Vajikarana Rasayana. The classical Rasayana approach to Shukra Dhatu: nourish the Dhatvagni first, then provide the specific Dhatu-building raw material through appropriate Rasayana preparations.
